“Exploring the coastal waters of the Svalbard Archipelago aboard a 125ft square-sailed, barquentine was both romantic and haunting. The sailing ship was constantly thrumming, growling, and creaking as it sailed through the icy dark waters. I attached contact microphones to the mast and the sheets to convert the Antigua into a complex instrument. This recording provides the soundtrack for a 12-hour timelapse of the ship returning from the edge of the pack ice during a long summer night.”
